We have done many changes to the film in the past week. The first big change we did was scraping the failed attempt at suicide becuase we felt it was too long winded and it distracted the audience from the actually story line (which is the effects of homophobia). Also, the failed attempt was well -filmed and we really liked the scene (espically the song) but it didn't have any pyschology effects and thats what we wanted. We felt that it wasn't that clear that Katie (the main character) had failed at suicide so we scraped it.
So we needed a new scene to replace the failed suicide attempt. We both hit on the idea of having the bully (Charlotte) talking to the camera and would be a spoken monologue. The monologue including why she was bullying Katie. We dediced she would be a victim of homophobic bullying and thats why she is doing it to Katie has a way of fitting intro society. We dediced on that because that is what some bullies do, try and fit in by copying what other people do. Hannah and I thought it would it be effective because it is what happens in real life.
I was ifluenced by a film I watched a while ago, which is called Totally F***ed Up and is all done on a video camera and is spilt into 15 chapters. It has "interviews" with all the characters. I thought it was a really simple but effective idea. So we dediced to use the idea. We also did a "interview" with Katie. We dediced Katie should bascially rant and become really angry which sparks suicide. We thought it was a good gateway into the suicide scene.
During this scence we started of with static from the televison, I thought of this idea after watching a music video from one of my favourite bands, Uh Huh Her. The video has static occasionally throughout the video and I thought it was a really good way of breaking up the video. Mainly because both scene's are on the same set and it's an easier way to show Charlotte has finished her monologue. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdIHK6L6j4s < where I got the static idea from). I also think it adds a good effect and somehow rough but good effect to the video.
We have kept the suicide scene becuase we think its a great powerful scene, probably the best scene we have done because of the camera angles and it gives you the shivers when you watch it. We have added a fact about homophobia at the end because it makes the audience realised that it is all based on the world and how little things can effect people greatly. We kept the credits black and white because other wise it looks too fancy and we don't like it. The final edit is up on YouTube now and here's the link:
